Opened in 1980 as the Tamitik Sports Complex; its name is Kitimat spelled backwards
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Kitimat's first ice rink was outdoors, on the site where Super Valu stands today. A new indoor rink in City Centre replaced the outdoor ice in 1964, and the Tamitik Sports Complex opened on November 17, 1980.
The arena's ice surface measures 29 by 63 metres, with a 169-metre walking track, five dressing rooms, heated seating areas and seating for 1,977 plus standing room for 400 more. Tamitik is Kitimat spelled backwards.
The Kitimat Ice Demons of the senior men's Central Interior Hockey League and the Kitimat Minor Hockey Association call it home. The Snow Valley Figure Skating Club formed in the town in 1965 with 100 skaters, and the BCHL Road Show, supported by LNG Canada, has scheduled games here.
