Findlay's indoor ice arena since 1974
The Cube Ice Arena was founded in 1974 and is Findlay's indoor ice arena at the Hancock Recreation Center. It runs on a split season, with ice from September to late March and again from May to mid-July; when the ice is melted from mid-July through August, the building's large indoor floor is used for concerts, flea markets, wedding receptions and meetings.
The arena has a capacity of 2,400 and an ice surface used for figure skating, hockey, adaptive skating and public skating. It is the home ice of the Findlay Amateur Hockey Association, the Findlay Men's Hockey League, Findlay Gliding Stars Adaptive Ice Skating, the Findlay Silver Blades Figure Skating Club and the Findlay High School hockey team, along with Findlay Recreation's own skating programs and classes. Gliding Stars puts on its annual ice show here on a Sunday afternoon in early March.
Junior hockey had a short run in the building. Beginning in 2008, the Findlay Grrrowl played Junior A hockey at the Cube, and in 2009 the Grrrowl won the United Junior Hockey League's only championship, beating the Jamestown Jets two games to one. The UJHL and an attempted successor league folded the next year.
