Sylvania's two-rink complex, built privately in 1972 and grown by the city, home of the Sylvania Skating Club.
The Tam-O-Shanter Sports ice rink was built in December 1972 by a private organization, Tam-O-Shanter Sports, Inc. In August 1982 the City of Sylvania bought the four acres the property stands on, and in June 1993 the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District broke ground on an expansion that added a second ice rink and a lobby joining the old and new buildings.
In September 2007 the rinks and the Exhibition Center fieldhouse were renovated with new bleachers, a more energy-efficient ceiling and 27,000 square feet of artificial turf. Today the complex has two rinks seating 700 and 1,100, an ice skating equipment shop and a 36,000-square-foot fieldhouse for conventions, trade shows and sporting events, with a senior center next door.
It is home to the Sylvania Skating Club, and each year since the recreation district bought it in 2010, the Children's Wonderland display has been set up in the Exhibition Center fieldhouse.
