Bowling Green State University's 5,000-seat arena, open since 1967 and home of Falcon hockey.
Bowling Green State University's ice arena was built from 1965 to 1967 for $1.8 million and opened in February 1967. Formerly the BGSU Ice Arena, it was renamed the Slater Family Ice Arena in honor of a transformative gift from Scott Slater and his family.
The 110,000-square-foot building's main arena seated 2,863 until a 1989 expansion brought it to 5,000. It is home to the Bowling Green Falcons of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, the BGSU men's club team, the BGSU Figure Skating Club and Bowling Green High School hockey, and the Bowling Green Curling Club played here from 1968 to 2016.
Olympic champion Scott Hamilton, who won four straight U.S. and world titles from 1981 to 1984 and Olympic gold in 1984, is among the arena's alumni. No building in Bowling Green has done more to bring the university and the town together.
