A 1,000-foot refrigerated skating trail

The Ribbon is a 1,000-foot paved loop trail at Glass City Metropark that is refrigerated in winter, giving 25,000 square feet of ice over rolling hills and soft curves. Metroparks Toledo announced preview days in January 2023 and opened the trail from February 4 to 20, nearly a year before its first regular season that November. The second phase of the park around it opened in June 2023.

Fourteen miles of tubing under the pavement carry the refrigerant, and a Zamboni keeps the surface smooth. The loop connects to the Pond, a 5,000-square-foot rink meant for beginning skaters and for anyone taking a break from the trail. Metroparks calls The Ribbon the region's only roller skating and ice skating trail: in warm weather the same loop is used for roller skates, roller blades, kick scooters and balance bikes.

The Hylant Family Foundation supports The Ribbon. Metroparks said in 2023 that it would be managed by Rink Management Services Corp., which also operates the ice ribbon at Maggie Daley Park in Chicago. The park's first phase opened in December 2020, on land that was home to the Maumee Rolling Mills steel company in the 1880s.
