Midtown's free-admission rink

The Rink at Bryant Park is the 17,000-square-foot centerpiece of Bank of America Winter Village, built each fall on the park's lawn behind the New York Public Library's Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. The lawn's season ends in October to make way for the village, which can be set up within two weeks.

The village grew out of the Holiday Shops, which Bryant Park introduced in 2002, modeled on Europe's Christkindlmarkt, to liven up the park in winter. They became a fixture of the Manhattan holiday scene in 2005, when the Pond, a free-admission ice-skating rink, opened in the park. The market has since grown from 80 boutiques to more than 170, and the rinkside eatery was rebranded The Lodge in 2018.

Skating on the ice is still free to enter, with rental skates, free skating shows and events alongside. The center of the rink is kept for skating lessons and figure skating, while public skaters circle it in timed sessions between the posted ice cuts.
