Waconia's one busy sheet of ice
Waconia Ice Arena, owned by the City of Waconia and operated by Sports Facilities Companies, is a year-round full-size rink right next to the high school. It is home ice for the Waconia Hockey Association and the Waconia Wildcats boys' and girls' hockey teams.
In a city of about 13,000, that single sheet is in use all day and all night by youth hockey, varsity and junior varsity high school teams and figure skating programs; the girls' coaches alone run a Little Wild program of about 65 kids. In September 2023 a Change.org petition to expand the arena drew more than 800 signatures.
A concession stand with food and drinks is open from late October through mid-March during hockey season.
