A rooftop rink in Long Island City since 2008

City Ice Pavilion opened in Long Island City in late 2008 with 33,000 square feet of skating surface. The ice sits on the roof of a two-story storage facility. It shares an operator with World Ice Arena, its sister rink.

Alongside the main sheet there is a Studio Rink, a small practice surface rented out in slots capped at six skaters including coaches. The skating school runs group classes and freestyle sessions and stages its own shows, with a 2026-2027 season of shows and events already on the calendar. On the hockey side the building runs Learn to Play Hockey and youth programs, stick-and-puck ice and an adult hockey league.

Two names from the professional game have coached here. Boo Nieves, after retiring from hockey because of injuries, founded Topline Elite Hockey to train young players at City Ice Pavilion. Adam Sherlip, who previously worked for the New York Islanders, coached hockey at the rink.
