The Ford Performance Centre opened in September 2009 at 400 Kipling Avenue in Etobicoke’s New Toronto neighbourhood, as the Mastercard Centre for Hockey Excellence. The Lakeshore Lions Club, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the City of Toronto built it together to replace the nearby Lakeshore Lions Arena, and since September 2011 the City’s arms-length Lakeshore Arena Corporation has run it. Ford took the naming rights in 2019.
It has four NHL-sized rinks, one of which can be expanded to Olympic dimensions with 1,000 seats. Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment added training and medical facilities to make it the practice rink of the Maple Leafs and the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, and visiting NHL teams and Hockey Canada’s national teams skate here too. Hockey Canada and the Hockey Hall of Fame keep offices in the building, and the Faustina Hockey Club runs house league and select hockey on its ice.
The centre hosted seasons three and four of CBC’s Battle of the Blades, in 2011 and 2013, and its first international short track competition in November 2015.
