A pop-up rink in the Great Barn at Avondale

Wicklow On Ice is a seasonal rink set up indoors in the Great Barn at Beyond the Trees Avondale, in Rathdrum. The organisers describe a sheltered rink with the Avondale forest and Avondale House around it, and it runs on selected dates between mid-November and early January.

Sessions last 45 minutes, and the rink keeps safety helmets, knee pads and shin pads on hand for beginners. Children must be at least 4 to skate, and a child of 12 or over may skate without an adult on the ice as long as a responsible adult stays in the rink area. Parents who only come to watch are not charged.

Three early sensory sessions in December are held for visitors who prefer a quieter hour on the ice.
