Built by a community committee, volunteers and donors, and owned by the youth hockey association.
The South Wood County Recreation Center grew out of a community committee that turned to the Board of Education, which approved a facility to be built on the Lincoln High School grounds. South Wood County 2000, Inc was incorporated on September 13, 1989, with a mission to develop and maintain athletic and cultural facilities for people of all ages, and it formed a partnership with the South Wood County Youth Hockey Association.
Boldt Construction was the general contractor, and volunteers carried out the ice-making piping, the locker room block work, the painting and the rubber flooring. The work was completed with no debt and no cost to the taxpayers, and ownership was transferred to the youth hockey association, which is exempt from property taxes.
After discovering many conflicts of use between hockey, figure skating and open skate, the founders established a Recreation Center Board to govern the center's operation for the benefit of all South Wood County.
