Yorkton Minor Hockey's home rink, rebuilt with a new slab, boards, glass, bleachers and dehumidification
The Kinsmen Arena is home to Yorkton Minor Hockey. In 2018 the City of Yorkton started planning with a focus on replacing it, and in October 2019 Council asked for a design for a second ice surface attached to the Gallagher Centre instead. Council later moved to assess and cost repairs to the Kinsmen Arena's own mechanical and building systems, with the aim of keeping it making ice for the next 15 years.
The City and Yorkton Minor Hockey picked a January closure for the work, planned so the rink could open again in September 2025. Crews removed the old boards, glass, player benches, spectator seating and concrete floor, then installed a new slab with refrigeration piping, new boards, glass and benches, and bleachers with accessible seating areas. The Kinsmen Club of Yorkton donated toward the project, including the purchase of the new arena boards.
Dehumidification went in as well, and the City says it has eliminated the drips that used to leave large bumps across the ice. With the project complete, Yorkton Minor Hockey took the first skates on the new surface.
