Built in 1988 as the Silverdome Arena

Planet Ice Basingstoke, formerly the Silverdome Arena, is a 2,000-seat arena built in 1988 around an Olympic-sized ice pad of 60 by 30 metres. The first hockey game played there was on 17 July 1988, when the Basingstoke Beavers, now the Bison, beat the Bournemouth Sharks 27-2 in front of 1,200 spectators.

Figure skating has been part of the building for decades: the rink's skating clubs won the National Team Challenge inter-rink competition in 1999, 2004 and 2009, and its Christmas show reached a cast of 190 for its 25th edition in 2013. The Bison and the Basingstoke Buffalo play here, alongside five junior teams.

The building went through a major refurbishment in 2025. Contractors worked on the stands and perimeter walkways and restored the distinctive red metal roof framework in its original red oxide colour, with a new thermal break to cure humidity problems. The Bison came back to home ice that October under new operators, Steve Nell and Rob Firmin.
