A community association's full-size arena, under the same roof as the largest curling rink in Calgary.
The Acadia Recreation Complex is owned and operated by the Acadia Community Association, a volunteer-based non-profit established in 1961. Its hockey arena shares the building with the largest curling rink in Calgary, 10 sheets of curling ice. The association describes the complex as a defining landmark in Acadia.
The arena is a full-size hockey rink with stands, 85 by 185 feet of ice. It is home to the Wolverines Hockey Club and the Bow View Ringette Association, whose seasons start at the beginning of September, with curling back in full swing by October. Between club and rental bookings, the complex runs a weekly public skate on Fridays and Sundays, plus seniors' and parent-and-tot skates, from August to March.
Once the ice comes out, the arena floor hosts lacrosse, roller derby and trade shows, and annual events such as Flat Track Fever Roller Derby and the Ukrainian Festival make the complex their home base. Fall is the busiest time of year at the ARC, and games on the ice are streamed through LiveBarn.
