A South Shore rink that opened with one NHL sheet in 2006 and added a second rink and a mini rink in 2012.
The Bog Ice Arena was founded by residents of neighboring South Shore communities and opened in 2006 with one full-size NHL rink. A second full-size rink and a mini rink followed in 2012. It sits on Summer Street in Kingston, near the junction of Route 3 and Route 3A, about 30 miles southeast of Boston.
The building is home to the Bay State Breakers, several high school hockey teams, youth organizations and men's and women's leagues, along with figure skating, curling and the Bog Skating School's learn-to-skate classes, which take children from age 3. Freestyle ice runs in 50-minute sessions.
Public hockey is limited to skaters 14 and up, and helmets are required on those sessions; sticks and pucks stay off the ice during public skating. There are no rental skates, so bring your own, but the full-service pro shop sharpens blades on both SPARX and Blademaster machines and sells figure and hockey skates. The Red Line Cafe snack bar is inside.
