Cape Cod's nonprofit community arena, open since 1989

Tony Kent Arena opened in 1989 in South Dennis, built by the nonprofit Tony Kent Arena, Inc. to meet the community's need for a local skating arena. That is still how it runs: the nonprofit owns the 5.2-acre site and operates the rink with two full-time and seven part-time staff members.

The arena is home to the Dennis-Yarmouth High School boys' and girls' varsity hockey teams, the Cape Cod Waves and the YD Dolphins, and to the skill-development company Cape Cod Hockey. The Eastern Hockey League's Seahawks Hockey Club took that name when the club was rebranded and moved into Tony Kent Arena, and it plays its home games on this ice.

The rink also has a place in figure-skating history. The men planning the 1994 attack on Nancy Kerrigan came looking for her in South Dennis: on December 31, 1993, Shane Stant reached the arena after Kerrigan had finished her practice session and left for the weekend, and on January 3, 1994, he called the rink and staff told him she was travelling to Nationals.
