Two outdoor rinks at Wheaton's Central Athletic Complex

The rinks sit on the west side of the Central Athletic Complex, which the Wheaton Park District counts among its biggest accomplishments of 2012: a partnership with Bradford Real Estate in which the district bought part of the former Hubble school property to preserve the gyms and fields it uses for athletics.

Two outdoor sheets share the site. Hockey may only be played on the smaller rink, and the larger rink is always reserved for open skate. The Parks Services Department resurfaces and grooms the ice as needed, and the rinks open only once sustained cold arrives, usually from late November or early December through early March.

The district's free Ice-A-Palooza event brings ice skating, skating demonstrations, DJ entertainment, crafts and games to the rinks, with figure skating performances by Center Ice of DuPage and a visit from Skates, the Chicago Wolves mascot.
