Two sheets, built in 1971 and 1988

The University of Delaware's ice complex is two separate buildings that sit side by side on campus. The Gold Arena, with an NHL-size sheet, was built in 1971. The Fred Rust Ice Arena, originally named the Blue Arena, followed in 1988 with an Olympic-size sheet and 2,500 seats.

Both buildings are home to the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club, chartered in January 1986, and to UD's Ice Skating Science Development Center, one of the world's leading training and research sites for figure skating. Athletes who have trained at or represented the club include Tara Lipinski and Kimmie Meissner, the 2006 World Champion, and High Performance Training Center skaters still use both arenas on weekdays and Sundays. The Fred Rust arena is also home to the Blue Hens' men's and women's hockey teams, and from the 2025-26 season to the university's NCAA Division I women's program in Atlantic Hockey America.

Public skating runs in the Fred Rust arena, where the lighting system adds colorful laser beams, black lights and image projections across the ice. The winter holiday season brings the Winter Wonderland series.
