Opened in 1996 with an NHL and an Olympic sheet
The Patriot Ice Center opened in 1996 in Newark, Delaware. The 67,019-square-foot building holds two sheets, one NHL-sized and one Olympic-sized, and counts over 1,100,000 in foot traffic annually, which makes it a heavily visited venue for the state.
It is the proud home of the Delaware Ducks youth travel hockey program, and the Delaware Military Academy is among the teams based here. A curling club is based at the Patriot Ice Center as well and routinely holds Intro to Curling sessions; nearly 30 people turned out for the January 2022 session.
The arena is managed by the Ice Rink Performance Group, which runs its programming, marketing and sponsorship partnerships in house. Inside the building, R&M Hockey Supply and the Del-Mar Cafe operate as on-site businesses.
