A 1930s Art Deco rink beside Murrayfield

Murrayfield Ice Rink was built between 1938 and 1939 but was not used for its intended purpose until the 1950s, having been a store during the Second World War; the arena says it has been home to generations of skaters and hockey players since 1957. It hosted the boxing events at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games.

It is a 3,800-seat arena beside Murrayfield Stadium, with a seven-sheet curling rink built in the 1970s after Haymarket Ice Rink closed. In 2013 Historic Environment Scotland gave it Category B listed status as an extremely rare surviving purpose-built ice rink building, with a 1930s Art Deco entrance façade.

The Edinburgh Capitals ice hockey team play here, as do local skating clubs and the Caledonia Steel Queens women's team, and the Murrayfield Racers played here from 2018 until 2022. The Scottish ice dance duo Sinead and John Kerr, who went on to represent Great Britain at European, World and Olympic level, were among the talent the rink nurtured.
