City of Edmonton arena in the Confederation Leisure Centre complex
Confederation Arena is the indoor ice sheet of a City of Edmonton fitness complex that also holds the Confederation Leisure Centre, outdoor tennis courts, sports fields and a running track. The leisure centre, the pool building on the same site, opened in 1973.
The complex has been reworked twice since. In 2003 it gained a new entrance, an elevator and a mechanical space. A later renovation of the 49,000-square-foot building brought mechanical and electrical upgrades, and the arena, lobby and exterior were handed back under a partial occupancy so the centre could keep its schedule.
Today the City runs drop-in public skating on the Confederation ice through the fall 2026 season. In an August 2026 update on the Rollie Miles Park recreation centre, whose plans remain in limbo, the City of Edmonton said the Kinsmen Sports Centre to the north and Confederation Leisure Centre to the south currently meet the needs of the surrounding neighbourhoods.
