A covered rink that replaced an open-air one
The rink at Vaujany is the covered, international-size ice of the Pôle Sports Loisirs, a complex that also holds a four-lane bowling alley, a toboggan run and a brasserie. It replaced an older open-air rink, and the commune's councillors decided in early 2010 to build a covered one.
The ice measures 58 by 28 metres, 1,600 square metres, with room for 700 spectators. It was meant to be used all year, by French ice hockey and figure skating teams as well as holidaymakers, and by schools from Allemont, Bourg-d'Oisans and Vizille during the school year.
The Gala Les Étoiles de la Glace is held here in December, and evening Nocturnes and Disco Banquise nights run on the ice. Courses in hockey, figure skating and curling are organised regularly.
