Amagasaki's pool hall that turns into an international-size ice rink each winter
The Amagasaki Sports Forest has a main pool whose floor can be raised and lowered, so its depth runs from zero to three metres. With the floor at zero and level with the pool deck, the hall becomes an international-size ice rink in winter, and the rink says it is open only in the cold season.
About 1,400 pairs of hire skates in sizes from 15 to 30 centimetres are kept for visitors, and groups can hire the ice around the clock. Gloves that fully cover and protect the hands are compulsory, and speed-skating blades must be covered to protect others.
Public sessions are posted in a calendar on the rink's opening-hours page, which marks the days when the ice is used only for private bookings and the days with changed hours.
