Public skating at the Sportforum Berlin takes place on a 30 by 60 metre sheet of ice in the Eisschnelllaufhalle Berlin-Hohenschönhausen. A 30 m × 60 m artificial ice surface was built in the Sportforum in the early 1960s, together with what was then an open 400-metre speed-skating track that received a free-spanning roof in 1963.
The Sportforum was built from the early 1950s and has 35 sports facilities. The sports club Dynamo Berlin was the main user of its first ten buildings, and today the Senate names the Füchse Berlin, the Eisbären Juniors and BFC Dynamo among the teams that train there.
The public sessions are run by Form Dienstleistungen GmbH, which says it offers no beginner courses, birthdays, figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey or hall hire. Some weekday-morning times are offered mainly to school classes, and some weekend times mainly to families with children.
