An ice stadium of 1964 with two halls today

Iscenter Nord began in 1964, when a company called Frederikshavn Svømmehal og Isstadion A/S built an ice stadium and an open-air swimming pool. The skating rinks were roofed from 1969, and changing rooms, a cafeteria, club rooms and more toilets were added over the following years. Planning of a second hall began in 2002, and the building of about 4,200 square metres was finished in late summer 2003. Work on rebuilding the old hall began on 20 May 2014, to make room for more spectators, and the new hall opened on 5 December 2014.

Today the centre is a municipal institution with two halls with rinks of international size, used for public skating and by a number of clubs. Frederikshavn White Hawks, who play in the Metal Ligaen, are the elite side of Frederikshavn Ishockey Klub. Frederikshavn Curling Club, founded in 2004, is the only curling club in Vendsyssel, and Frederikshavn Skøjteforening and Skøjte- og sportsforening Nord, formed in 2014, train skaters. The rebuilt hall holds 4,000 spectators, up from 2,490 in the old one.
