Inaugurated on 28 November 1958

The Patinoire des Vernets was built from 1957 by the architects Albert Cingria, François Maurice and Jean Duret and inaugurated on 28 November 1958. The first plan allowed for 10,000 spectators, 4,000 seated in the main stand and 6,000 standing along the other three sides. A renovation in 2009 raised the capacity from 6,400 to 7,202 places, and the enlarged hall was first shown to spectators on 2 October 2009, when Genève-Servette met HC Lugano.

The sports centre has two indoor rinks. Rink A takes public skating and hockey training; the larger rink B hosts the big competitions, among them the matches of Genève-Servette Hockey Club, and is open to the public as well. A renovation of both rinks has now begun.

Each winter the city adds ice discos to the season, on 24 October, 7 November, 5 December and 26 December 2026 and on 30 January and 20 February 2027, and a Fête de la Glace on 1 November 2026.
