Opened in 1977 as Kunstijsbaan Kennemerland

IJsbaan Haarlem opened in 1977 as Kunstijsbaan Kennemerland, an open track on the site of a natural-ice rink that had lain there since before the war. The soft ground sank and the track closed after two years; a new one reopened in 1983. In 2005 a 30 by 60 metre floor was laid in the middle, and the rink switched that year to cooling under the ice with carbon dioxide, which Dutch Wikipedia calls a first in the world.

The 400 m oval was half-covered in the summer of 2006, and a tent roof went over the middle floor in 2016. The middle ice measures about 3,400 square metres and can be split into a 30 by 60 metre rink and an ice hockey rink. The rink owns three ice resurfacing machines, and the Kraantje Lek Trofee has been skated here every year since 1981.

About 240,000 skaters come each year. Around twenty skating clubs use the 400 m track, figure skating lessons and training run on the 30 by 60 metre floor, and Shorttrack Haarlem trains skaters from beginners to advanced on the middle ice.
