The only half-open ice rink in Flanders, a covered open-air rink under a sail structure and home of HYC
Public skating at Sport Vlaanderen Herentals: the next 7 days
Currently out of season The rink's page says the half-open ice rink runs from 2 October to 2 April, but the hours page still shows last season's end date (2 April 2026), so this season's public skating hours are not posted yet. Official schedule update
The ice rink at Sport Vlaanderen Herentals is the only half-open rink in Flanders: a covered open-air rink under an ingenious sail construction, so that changeable Belgian weather does not spoil the skating. The centre describes it as the first covered ice rink in Flanders, and the skating season runs from 2 October to 2 April.
HYC, the Herentals ice hockey club, plays its home games on the ice. The club was founded in 1971, won its first Belgian Hockey League title in 1981 and the inaugural Belgian Cup in 1986, and now plays in the first division of the BeNe League.
Besides free skating there are disco sessions, and family sessions for which a giant play paradise is built around the ice.
