Hasselt's Olympic-size rink, in use since 1972
Sport Vlaanderen Hasselt, formerly known as De Schaverdijn, is an indoor ice hall with an Olympic short-track sheet of 30 by 60 metres. Bloso put the rink into use in 1972, when it was not yet covered, and the hall and roof were thoroughly renovated at the end of the 1980s.
It is the home of the BeGold project, which supports the best young sporting talents with the aim of winning an Olympic medal. Four ice sports clubs are active in Hasselt: the Hasseltse Kunstschaatsclub, the ice hockey club Haskey, the short track club YSD and the icecross club X-treme Ice Skating.
In the autumn holiday the ice becomes a winter playground on weekday afternoons. The calendar includes the Haskey tournament in early September, the Ice Talent Trophy in February and the Belgian short track championship in March.
