Open air in 1993, covered since 2011

The Patinoire régionale de Delémont opened as an open-air artificial-ice rink in autumn 1993, after a petition of 6,189 signatures in January 1990. The company Patinoire régionale Delémont SA was formed that July, and skating clubs from five places of the district (Glovelier, Bassecourt, Courtételle, Courrendlin and Delémont) took part in the building.

In the open air the ice season lasted only four months, from November to February, so skaters went to covered rinks at either end of the winter. The roof came in 2011: the covered rink opened on 22 October 2011 and was inaugurated on 28 January 2012. Its frame of inverted triangular trusses and its covered-open design have drawn more users every year.

A solar power plant on the roof produced its first kilowatt-hours on 28 June 2013. Some 200 young hockey players and figure skaters train on the ice.
