A 1972 two-city rink grown into an event arena
The Kunsteisbahn was founded on 22 February 1972 by its main shareholders at the time, the cities of Kreuzlingen and Konstanz. After a halt in construction the topping-out was celebrated on 10 June 1977, and on 7 February 1999 Kreuzlingen's voters approved a thorough renovation and extension. Since 24 June 2004 the city of Kreuzlingen has been the sole shareholder of the Bodensee-Arena.
The arena offers 1,800 square metres of ice and room for up to 2,500 spectators. A second, covered open-air ice field is used by schools and for public skating, and a tennis hall belongs to the site. Events such as Eisdiscos add to the regular skating hours, and Eisstockschiessen is played on the arena's terrace. A team of 28 permanent staff, backed by more than 50 part-timers, runs the site.
