Currently out of season The rink's site says the floating Christmas rink opens on Saturday 5 December 2026 and closes on 3 January 2027, open daily from 10:00 to 21:00 except on holidays; no sessions are listed here before the opening day. Checked on 4 October 2026. Official schedule update
The Drijvende IJsbaan floats on pontoons in the Nieuwe Rijn, beside the Stadhuisplein in the historic centre of Leiden. It is part of the Winter Wonder Weken, the December programme that gives the city centre its winter events.
Stichting Sport in Beeld organises the rink and says it collects money at all its events for the Willem-Alexander Children's Hospital. The aluminium pipe system under the ice is described as up to 40 percent more efficient than rubber or plastic ones, and since 2022 the wooden structures have been built as a kit that is reused every year.
Saturday and Sunday mornings bring the Kik Familieochtend, and Silent Disco nights on 23 and 30 December let skaters dance to music on wireless headphones. The Rotary Santa Run starts beside the rink on 18 December. The organisers say more than 25,000 skaters use the ice, and that the Winter Wonder Weken draw 50,000 to 60,000 visitors to the centre.
