The 2023 successor to Schaatshal Leiden, with a raised 250 m ring

IJshal De Vliet opened in 2023 as the successor to Schaatshal Leiden, which had served the region's skaters for almost fifty years. A foundation with six board members runs it, and the sports complex works almost energy neutral thanks to heat pumps.

The Rondbaan is a wide 250 metre ring raised onto the first floor, and its bends have the same dimensions as real competition tracks. Only speed skates are allowed on it, apart from Family on Ice on Sundays. Public skaters use that ring and the 20x45 Funbaan, while the official 30x60 Binnenbaan is kept for clubs, schools and groups.

Ice hockey here is played with Leiden Lions, figure skating with KSV Rijnland and short track with IHCL, and the Sven Kramer Academy Leiden gives the youth lessons. Kai Verbij and Kjeld Nuis took some of their first strokes in the Leiden hall. From the 2026-27 season the rink also organises special skating hours for people with a visual impairment.
