Lyon's 1967 Olympic-size rink
Charlemagne is a Ville de Lyon rink inaugurated on 28 April 1967. Its ice is Olympic size, 60 by 30 metres, in a building that measures 80 by 70 metres on the ground. It holds 4,200 people depending on the layout, 3,132 of them in fixed seats.
The rink is the home of the Lyon Hockey Club and the Club des Sports de Glace de Lyon, and it hosts national and international competitions and ice shows. The 1974 World Championships (Group C) were played here, and the 2026-27 programme includes a synchronised skating Masters in November, the Patin'air show in December and a short-track competition in April.
An extension was built in 2001, and the building was renovated in 2006-2007 to meet safety, acoustic and disabled-access rules and to improve its energy performance. The rink served as the model for other sports buildings in the Lyon area, including the Vaise and Mermoz swimming pools.
