A 30 by 30 metre municipal rink, open from October to spring, home ice of the city's figure-skating club
Saint-Étienne's municipal rink sits in the Parc François-Mitterrand. It is where the city skates for leisure and learns ice sports, and it is the training and competition rink of the figure-skating club. It opens each year from October to the end of April or the beginning of May.
Local radio reported in 2024 that the pad measures 30 metres by 30, half the minimum for a homologated rink. A coach of the Sports de glace stéphanois said the ice melted at the edges in some years and that the poorly insulated building cannot keep it after May. The club limits itself to 160 members, and skaters who want to compete must train at Roanne. Even so, the rink welcomes 50,000 people a year.
A new Olympic-standard rink was voted by Saint-Étienne Métropole in 2019. A 2022 plan promised 2,400 square metres instead of 1,000 and year-round opening instead of seven months, with the current rink closing in 2025.
