Synthetic ice on the Hauptmarkt

The Nürnberger Winterwelt is a synthetic ice rink of 600 square metres on the Hauptmarkt, run by the sports club Post SV Nürnberg together with a catering company and the city. Next to the rink are two ice-stock lanes, and the organisers report more than 100,000 guests for the 2026 edition.

The surface is made of a plastic mixture that glides much like real ice. It needs neither water nor cooling and works without a gliding agent, and the track is smoothed and prepared separately before each use.

Rental skates are available in sizes 26 to 47 against a deposit and cannot be reserved in advance. During school holidays the club runs a morning camp on the ice, and a children's birthday package covers entry for up to ten children and two adults including rental skates. The rink and the ice-stock lanes cannot be used outside the opening hours.
