Opened on 13 October 1968 after a town-wide fundraiser; saved by volunteers in 2025
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Osby ishockeyklubb was founded in 1967 and at first borrowed the rink in neighbouring Glimåkra. The town then built its own hall, with the ice rink association as client and strong support from local firms. A large fundraising barometer stood on a corner in the centre, and a newsletter, IS-bladet, was sent to every household. The hall opened on 13 October 1968 before about 1,200 visitors, finished at the last minute by volunteers who often worked into the night, and the public and schools could use it the next day.
Osby Konståkningsklubb was formed in 1970; one of its skaters, Åsa Persson, became Swedish champion in 2002. From the early 2010s complaints about a musty smell and damp led to inspections, and in 2023 a new analysis traced the smell to chloroanisoles from old wood preservative, not mould spores.
After the environment board ruled in October 2023 that the hall could not be used without renovation by 30 June 2025, more than 1,300 people filled the Hangaren for an Osby IK match. Osby Ishallsförening was formed in December 2024 and in February 2025 signed a 12-year agreement under which the municipality runs the hall and the association renovates it. Nearly 100 volunteers put in about 900 hours, and the closure ruling was lifted in June 2025.
