Poznań's covered full-size rink, open since 2009 and named for an Olympic hockey player
Lodowisko Chwiałka opened in the 2009/2010 winter season, run by Poznań's sports and recreation centre POSiR. Polish Wikipedia calls it the city's first full-size rink since the old Bogdanka rink closed in 1994. At the request of the Poznań Hockey Society it has been permanently roofed since the 2012/2013 season, and on 7 February 2014 it was named after the Olympic hockey player Witalis Ludwiczak (1910-1988).
The rink is a full-size ice surface of 1,800 square metres. Its boards, team boxes, scoreboard and stands for about 250 spectators meet the homologation rules of the Polish Ice Hockey Association, so professional hockey matches can be played here.
The roof frees the rink from the weather and can stretch its season to as long as ten months a year. It stands in the city centre between Chwiałkowskiego and Ojca Mariana Żelazka streets, and besides public sessions it hosts skating courses and hockey schools.
