Rouen's two-sheet Île Lacroix rink, opened in 1992 and extended in 2021
The Île Lacroix rink sits in Rouen's Guy-Boissière sports centre, formerly the Docteur Duchêne centre, and opened on 14 January 1992. The Rouen architecture firms Groupe 3 Architectes and Artefact designed it with two halls: a 56 by 26 metre rink for the public and a 60 by 30 metre Olympic rink with 3,279 seats, used for competitions and the home games of the Rouen hockey club.
That club, Rouen hockey élite 76, known as the Dragons de Rouen, was founded in 1970. It has played in the Ligue Magnus, France's top division, since 1985 and counts eighteen French titles and two Continental Cups, in 2012 and 2016. It has played on the Île Lacroix since 1992, and the rink hosted the French figure skating championships in 1994 and 2023.
After ten years of exemptions the rink closed in summer 2010 so that the freon refrigerant under both sheets could be replaced with R507, along with the original boards. A further 17 months of work ended in May 2021 with a video cube, 300 more seats and seven more boxes. On 22 May 2021 the Olympic rink was named after Nathalie Péchalat and the public rink after Édith Ballester.
