A mobile ice rink founded by a Sargans club in 2005

Verein Eispark Sarganserland was founded in Sargans on 1 November 2005. At the start of that year a few committed people from the Sarganserland had laid the groundwork for a mobile artificial ice rink, and the aim was to offer a rink for young and old for the 2006/2007 winter season.

The rink stands at the Riet sports ground in Sargans. The club set it up as a platform for ice sport in the region and argued that ice skating is an easy alternative for families with small children, who can enjoy it with little time and effort. It also described the rink as a welcome selling point for the Heidiland tourism region.

The club paid for the rink with day and season tickets, hire of the facility and courses, plus donations, advertising and sponsors. It said such a project needs many members from the Sarganserland communities and many people willing to volunteer.
