IJsclub Vlietland: a land rink at the edge of Schipluiden, re-founded in 1991 and keen on koek en zopie
Currently out of season IJsclub Vlietland's natural-ice rink at Zouteveenseweg 2b in Schipluiden is closed for now: the club's news says the pond was drained at the end of February 2026 and on 21 September 2026 that the ice masters are 'helemaal klaar met deze lange zomer' and threaten to fill the rink. In an ice period it opens from 19:00 to 22:00 under floodlights when the ice is good; the board decides whether it opens for members only, for children only or with day tickets. No sessions are listed here. Checked 11 October 2026. Official schedule update
IJsclub Vlietland describes its land rink as beautifully placed on the south side of Schipluiden, at the corner of Zouteveenseweg and Holierhoek and at the edge of the Zouteveense polder. Next to it stands a cosy clubhouse where koek en zopie are served.
The club, re-founded in 1991, offers its members the chance to skate on natural ice during ice periods. When the ice is strong enough the rink hosts short-track and marathon races and other events, such as a mini Elfstedentocht for youngsters, an alternative tour and an old-Dutch horse festival.
It belongs to the KNSB and to its Westland district, and the board weighs ice thickness, quality, expected crowds and the forecast before opening. In September 2026 the ice masters said they were fed up with the long summer.
