A 1959 city rink under renovation
The Kunsteisbahn Grabengut was built in 1959 and belongs to the city of Thun. When voters were asked to approve its renovation in 2022 the rink counted around 70,000 entries a year, and the city said it urgently needed work.
It has two ice fields, one under a roof and one in the open air, with the city's curling hall next door. Since April 2025 the city has been renovating the rink, a project drawn up with the Interessengemeinschaft Grabengut, whose members are EHC Thun, Dragon Thun, HC Lerchenfeld, EV BOMO, EC Thun and CC Thun Regio. The hockey clubs and the skating club resumed training during the works, which is why the 2026/27 season opens late.
The calendar includes Samichlaus on the ice and moonlight skating on the open-air field, and the curling hall hosts national championships and tournaments.
