Toruń's Tor-Tor: the city's first artificial rink, open since 1960
Tor-Tor opened in 1960 and, in the words of its operator, is the first artificial ice rink in Toruń. The roof, designed by the Toruń architect Czesław Sobociński, was completed in 1986; seats for spectators followed in 1988, and in April 2009 a second, training ice sheet was added. The rink is named after Józef Stogowski, a former TKS Toruń player and Olympian.
Today the hall has two ice sheets of 30 by 60 metres and a stand for 2,997 spectators, and it is heated and ventilated. Hockey players, figure skaters and short-track skaters train here.
The hall also stages ice revues, a kickboxing gala, ice speedway and concerts, and holds public sessions of 50 minutes on selected days, usually in the afternoon or evening.
