Host of the 1987 and 1994 ice hockey Group B world championships

Palaghiaccio Gianmario Scola in Alba di Canazei has been the seat of the local ice hockey leagues since it was built in 1981. The covered stadium has an Olympic-size rink of 30 by 60 metres with artificial refrigeration, and holds up to 3,500 people.

It is the home of the Fassa Falcons, the area's long-standing local ice hockey team, together with the Futurestars youth teams and the Val di Fassa Artistico Ghiaccio skating association. Italian and European clubs also book it for hockey and figure-skating camps and stages.

The stadium hosted the Group B ice hockey world championships in 1987 and 1994 and, in 2013, the matches and closing ceremony of the XXVI Winter Universiade. It is open eleven months a year, with figure-skating shows such as the Fassa Ice Gala that have brought leading international skaters to the ice, and skating here goes on to music in a lively atmosphere.
