Opened in January 2019 for the EHC Raron, founded in 1950; the ice season grew from 3 to 8 months.
The Raiffeisen Arena in Raron's Basper industrial zone opened in January 2019 as the ice hall of the EHC Raron, a club founded in 1950 by a few young men from Raron. The club began on a natural-ice pitch on a wooded plot at Turtig, built its first artificial ice in 1997 and replaced the cooling with a concrete slab in 2006. By then the artificial-ice season had shrunk to three months, and in 2015 the final hall project was started.
Since the opening the ice season has lasted eight months. The hall has a 30 by 60 metre ice surface with 22 kilometres of cooling pipes, laid with 4,500 hours of volunteer work by 195 helpers from the club, the village and the region, and a public changing room for skating. The EHC Raron Betriebs-AG, founded for the purpose, runs the building, and in March 2024 the club won the Western Switzerland title and rose to the 1. Liga for the first time.
