Vitry's municipal Olympic-type rink, decided in 1972 and inaugurated in 1978
In April 1972 Vitry-sur-Seine's council decided to build a rink together with a covered market in the 8-Mai-1945 district. The Olympic-type rink with a 56 by 26 metre ice surface was financed by the city alone, without state participation. It opened to the public at the end of 1976 and was officially inaugurated on 8 March 1978.
In 1980, after the operator withdrew, the city took over the running itself so that public skating, hockey and the ESV's figure skating section could continue. In the 1970s and 1980s it was the meeting place of the town's youth, with hip-hop and music, and it has produced skaters including Maé-Bérénice Méité, who started at five, won six French titles and had an Olympic career, and Youssef Samaghare, French hockey champion in 2005 and now deputy director.
The refrigeration plant was modernised in 2020. Vitry remains one of the few towns in the département with a rink, and over the 2025 Christmas holidays it counted 600 to 700 visitors a day.
