The Kanagawa skate rink of 1951, rebuilt as the Yokohama Bank Ice Arena in 2015
The Kanagawa Skate Rink, opened in 1951, was popular with visitors for 60 years before it was renewed in December 2015 as the Yokohama Bank Ice Arena. The new main rink measures 60 by 30 metres, the international size used at figure skating competitions, with ice hockey lines, and a small 22 by 6 metre sub rink suits beginners.
The rebuilt arena lengthened the public sessions so that families and friends can skate calmly in the afternoon. It also runs skating lessons and events for beginners, and its early-morning and night hire hours are used for ice hockey and figure skating practice.
A gallery lets visitors watch the ice through windows, and a bright multipurpose room looks out on passing trains. The Yokohama Sport Association manages the arena.
