Fort Bragg's year-round ice rink, open to the public
Cleland Ice & Inline Skating Rinks is the Army MWR rink on Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and describes itself as the only ice rink within a 60-mile radius that provides year-round ice skating. Although it sits on the post, it is open to the public, military and civilian alike, with open skating, group and private lessons, figure skating clubs, parties and private ice rental.
It is an indoor rink, but a cold one: the lobby and bleacher area are about 55 degrees and the ice surface around 45, so the staff recommend long pants, gloves and a jacket.
Cape Fear Youth Hockey is the current hockey program, and the rink adds Skate & Shoot sessions for players of all ages and broomball, which it pitches as a team-building option. There is no snack bar, so families may bring their own food, and a Blademaster machine sharpens skates left overnight.
