The Raleigh area's original ice rink

Polar Ice Cary is the original ice rink in the Raleigh area. The building went up as a roller skating rink in 1978 and was converted to ice in 1986, and it was known as the Cary Ice House before it took the Polar Ice name. The rink hosted the 1987 US Olympic Festival and the North Carolina State Games in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

It is a single sheet of ice, home to the Raleigh Youth Hockey Association and the East Coast Eagles Hockey Club. The Polar Adult Hockey League's South Conference plays out of Cary and Garner, and the Polar House Hockey League's 6U and 8U teams generally practice here. Children move from Learn to Skate into Kindercanes or the Lil' Canes classes in Learn to Play, then into the House League, and Power Hockey is coached weekly by John Loehr or one of his Triangle Hockey Training coaches. Figure skating runs under Skating Director Kristy Hemstreet.

By December 2017 the rink was one of American Sports & Entertainment Centers' Polar Ice Houses, named alongside Garner when the company bought the Raleigh IcePlex. A Learn to Skate registration now carries unlimited public skating at all five Polar locations, and Camp Chillin' runs year-round for ages 5 to 11.
