Orange County Sportsplex was completed in 1994 in Hillsborough as an 82,000-square-foot complex with one NHL-size ice rink, three heated indoor pools, a fitness center, a pro shop and a cafe. Its developer's portfolio lists it as the Triangle SportsPlex, the largest sports and recreation complex in Orange County.
The single sheet carries a long tenant list. It is the home rink of two synchronized skating teams, Carolina Ice Synchro and Eastern Elite Synchro, and of hockey teams from the Carolina Thunder, the Hillsborough Hogs, the University of North Carolina, Duke University and Elon University. The Central Carolina Skating Club, established in July 1995 and US Figure Skating member club #497, is headquartered here. The Sportsplex also hosts four separate adult hockey leagues, run with divisions for players of every age, speed and skill level.
Through the year the rink hosts youth, college and adult hockey games and tournaments, with hockey camps through the summer.

Admission
Public ice skating admission is $10.00 for adults and $9.00 for children (12 and under). The group rate (20 or more, includes skates) is $8.00. Skate rental is $5.00 and a skate aid (9 and under) is $7.00.
Skate rental is $5, separate from admission, in both figure and hockey styles. Skate aids for ages 9 and under are $7. Skate sharpening at the front desk is $10 for drop-off (48+ hours) or $12 for on-the-spot service when a sharpener is on staff, plus $5 for a cross grind and $1 per rivet repair.
Freestyle requires advance online registration before stepping onto the ice, with a 25-skater cap per session; walk-ins are admitted only as space allows.
Helmets are strongly encouraged for public skate and bike helmets are fine. If a child is skating without an adult, parents are asked to watch from the seating areas or along the glass rather than the ice entrances. Carrying children, strollers, chairs, street shoes, sticks, pucks, toys and purses are not allowed on the ice.
